Local conditions

A 1970s planned community, now several decades into its life

Riverchase grew out of the old Acton coal-mining area. Harbert bought the land in 1968, the Harbert-Equitable joint venture formed in 1974, Riverchase Parkway opened in 1975 and the first home was finished in 1976. Hoover annexed the community in September 1980, and the Riverchase Galleria opened in 1986. The original plan stressed blending new development with the natural landscape along the Cahaba River. A lot of the housing here dates from the late 1970s onward, which makes much of it several decades old. Businesses and shopping grew up alongside the houses.

Area guides describe a mix of condos, townhomes and single-family homes. Shared-wall properties have their own layouts and panel locations, and owners often want fixtures, fans, outlets or EV charging added without a big project. In houses of this age, original panels, worn switches and dated fixtures are common reasons to call, and the same goes for the businesses that fill the commercial side of Riverchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question?
I own a Riverchase condo. Can you replace light fixtures and ceiling fans?

Yes, light fixture replacement and ceiling fan installation are regular work for us. Because condos and townhomes often share walls and common areas, it is worth checking with your association about anything that touches shared systems or the exterior before you schedule.

Can you install an EV charger in a Riverchase townhome garage?

We install Level 2 chargers at homes and businesses. The first step is looking at your panel to see whether it has room for a new circuit, and if you rent or belong to an association, confirm you are allowed to add one. Request service and mention where you want it mounted.

The lights in my Riverchase house flicker. Is that serious?

Occasional flicker can be a bulb or dimmer, but flickering that comes with warm switches, buzzing, or lights that dim when an appliance starts can point to a loose connection or an overloaded circuit. That deserves a proper look, so request service and describe when it happens.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Handy Dudes Electrical holds Alabama Electrical Contractor License #04824 and is insured, and our electrical work is done to code for your safety.
